Australian woman sentenced to 5 months imprisonment for stealing laptops

DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – The Denpasar District Court sentenced on Thursday, an Australian teacher Vanessa Louise Crimmins to 5 months imprisonment for stealing two laptops from Bali local residents.

The sentence is lighter than 8 months prison term demanded by the prosecutor.

The presiding judge Gusti Ayu Akhiryani said that Crimmins announced that Crimmins been found guilty for violating article 362 of Criminal Code on theft.

“Therefore sentence the defendant Vanessa Louise Crimmins to 5 months imprisonment,” said Gusti Ayu.

The panel of judges announced that Crimmins act has caused a loss to both victims, the owners of the stolen laptops. Judge also said that her act have disturbing the community.

The judges also considered several mitigating factors, including that Crimmins have shown her remorse. Judge also considered that she has never been punished for any other crime. Judges also considered that Crimmins have kids that have to be cared.

Vanessa Louise Crimmins was arrested in Oct. 30, 2024 after allegedly steal two laptops in front of Popular Deli Supermarket in Tibubeneng, North Kuta. Her act was recorded the supermarket CCTV.

Vanessa Louise Crimmins told the panel of judges at Denpasar District Court during the trial weeks ago that she has no intention to steal the laptops. She said that she took the bags only to secure it as she have seen the bags in the sitting area for hours and no one secure it. (mybalinews/ERV)
