
KARANGASEM, mybalinews.com- Singaraja Immigration Office have deported a Norwegian national for illegally climbing Mount Agung, the highest mountain on the resort island of Bali.
The Norwegian man, identified as BG (41), have violating regulations by climbing mount Agung in Karangasem, Bali, without a guide.
The Head of Singaraja Immigration Office Hendra Setiawan said that BG have climbing the mountain alone without any guide. He was apprehended by the immigration enforcement officers of Singaraja Immigration based on a report from local authorities.
“Immediately after receiving the report, we deployed a team to the location and secured the foreign national for further examination at the office,” said Hendra Setiawan on Monday (24/2).

He explained that BG was deported on Thursday (20/2) via Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, boarding Air Asia X flight number D7799 bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The deportation process was accompanied by Singaraja Immigration enforcement officers.
“He was subject to immigration administrative actions, including deportation and entry denial,” he added.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that BG entered Indonesia on February 2, 2025, through Ngurah Rai International Airport. He held a Visit Visa on Arrival (VOA) valid until March 3, 2025.
Hendra mentioned that the Mount Agung hiking management had already warned BG not to hike without a guide.
This was in line with the Circular Letter from the Forestry and Environmental Agency Number B.24.500.4.1/95/UPTD.KPHBT/DKLH/ 2025 regarding the Prevention of Climbing Risks on Mount Agung During Extreme Weather Conditions. The circular stipulates that climbers must be accompanied by a local guide.
“However, BG tried to deceive the local authorities. He even documented the prohibition banner but still ignored it,” he explained.
He added that since the issuance of the circular letter by the Forestry and Environmental Agency, warning billboards have been installed in the Mount Agung climbing area.
“This warning must be adhered to and followed by any climbers wishing to hike. This is a preventive step to anticipate unwanted incidents resulting from hiking without a guide,” he stated.
“Deportation and denial of entry for foreign nationals who do not comply with the laws and regulations in Indonesia is our commitment to enforcing immigration law,” he concluded. (mybalinews/KAD)
