The extreme weather could change the water temperature, that cause the fish lack of oxygen in the waters. The phenomenon could also be caused by the changes in the potential of hydrogen (pH) of the water.

Ratna added that the increase in algae or algae blooming could also cause the phenomenon. Algae blooming has made there is a struggle for oxygen in the waters.

“This has great potential to cause mass fish deaths considering that the weather in Bali has been very extreme for the past few days, where rainwater can affect the condition of seawater levels, both in terms of oxygen, pH, salinity and others,” said Ratna in a statement on Thursday (2/12).

The agency will conduct further investigation to find out the the cause of the phenomenon.

“BKSDA Bali will conduct an in-depth investigation into the cause of this phenomenon. BKSDA Bali also expressed its gratitude for the reports from the surrounding community,” Ratna said. ( mybalinews/ KAD/ERV )
