DENPASAR, mybalinews — Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Agency Tjok Bagus Pemayun responded to the implementation of the 12 percent value added tax (VAT) that will be implemented by the Indonesian government in 2025.

Pemayun said that he had not received information whether the implementation of the 12 percent VAT would later result in an increase in rates at travel agents for tourists or an increase in rates at tourist attractions on the Island of the Gods.

“Until now I have not received information related to that. Of course, they will re-calculate and it will be informed,” he said, when contacted Friday (12/27).

However, with the 12 percent VAT, he admitted that there will be price adjustments both at travel agents and at tourist attractions in Bali. The agency is still coordinating it with the Indonesian Recreational Park Business Association (PUTRI) and the Indonesian Tour and Travel Association (Asita) Bali.

“Yes, there will definitely be price adjustments. There may be price adjustments. But until now, I have not received the data, we are still communicating this with PUTRI and Asita,” he added.

If there is an increase in rates at travel agents or ticket increases at tourist attractions in Bali, they hope to increase the rates appropriately and not too high.

“As long as the price is not adjusted too high, of course the reasonable must be in accordance with what is happening. For example, the tax is so much, the additional so much, that must also be conveyed,” he said.
However, if there is a tariff increase later, it is also expected not to have an impact on the trend of tourist visits to Bali Island.

“Yes, hopefully it will not have an impact. But if I see that the trend of tourists in Bali) that continues to increase. I think even if there is an increase, it is understandable because the regulation is like that,” he said.
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya, assessed that the 12 percent VAT will definitely have impact to the number of sectors including, the increase in tourist attraction tickets in Bali.

“This will automatically increase many things, even though it is said that certain goods will increase. But maybe people don’t see it, when one item increases, others will also increase, right? Who wants to control it,” he said. (kanalbali/KAD/ERV)
