Bali airport temporarily halts operations for 24 hours on nyepi day

Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali - IST

BADUNG, mybalinews.com – I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali will temporarily stop its services on the Hindu New Year celebration of Nyepi, Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Bandara Ngurah Rai airport’s operational halt will last for 24 hours, from Saturday 6 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) until Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 6 a.m. WITA.

“During this period, all flight services, both domestic and international, will be temporarily suspended, except for medical flights, medical evacuations, and emergency flights,” General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said in a statement on Thursday.

“To anticipate any medevac requests, emergency landings, or technical landings, we will keep operational personnel, security, and technical staff on standby in the airport’s control room,” he emphasized.

The temporary closure of services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airportis a form of respect for the Hindu community observing Nyepi. This measure is also in accordance with the Bali Governor’s Circular Letter No. B.16.100.3.4/865/LLJ/DISHUB YEAR 2025 regarding the implementation of the Hindu New Year Nyepi Day in the Saka Year 1947, and a notification to aviation operators through the publication of NOTAMN or Notice to Airmen Number A0131/25 NOTAMN.

“This NOTAMN has been published by Airnav Indonesia Denpasar branch since January 14, 2025, so all airlines have already adjusted their flight schedules well in advance to accommodate the airport’s operational hours during Nyepi,” Syaugi said.

Based on the regular flight schedule from 54 airlines operating at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, there are 425 scheduled flights coinciding with the Nyepi observance, comprising 207 domestic flights and 218 international flights.

“To smooth the process of the first departure after the closure, approximately 19 aircraft will be parked here, as the day after Nyepi, we will resume flight operations as usual,” he explained.

“In line with one of the meanings of Nyepi, which is ‘amati lelungan’ or refraining from travel and self-reflection, we also use this moment as an opportunity to evaluate the services we provide to passengers, and we also take this time to rest the operational facilities that have been working 24/7 throughout the year to meet airport service standards,” he concluded.
