Three Foreign Nationals Deported from Bali for Working Illegally on Tourist Visas

BULELENG, Bali – Indonesian immigration authorities have deported three foreign nationals after they were found working illegally in Bali, including as yoga instructors and a factory technician, while holding tourist visas and other short-term visit permits.

The foreigners were identified only by their initials: AKG, a 48-year-old Indian national; RN, a 44-year-old Singaporean woman; and ST, a 34-year-old Chinese man.

Head of the Class II Immigration Office at the Singaraja Immigration Checkpoint (TPI), Anak Agung Gde Kusuma Putra, said the action followed immigration surveillance and reports from members of the public.

“The action was taken based on immigration monitoring and public reports received within the jurisdiction of the Singaraja Immigration Office,” Kusuma Putra said on Wednesday.

According to the investigation, AKG and RN organized yoga sessions and worked as yoga instructors at a villa in Buleleng Regency. Meanwhile, ST was found installing production machinery and providing operational training to employees at a factory in Karangasem Regency.

Immigration officials said AKG and ST had entered Indonesia on Visa on Arrival (VoA) permits, while RN entered under the country’s visa-free entry scheme. Those permits are intended solely for short-term visits and do not authorize holders to work or engage in activities beyond the purpose for which the visas were granted.

The three foreigners were deported and will also be blacklisted from re-entering Indonesia for violating the country’s immigration regulations.

The sanctions were imposed under Article 75(1) in conjunction with Article 122(a) of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, which provides penalties for foreign nationals who misuse their stay permits while in Indonesia.

Kusuma Putra said immigration authorities would continue stepping up supervision of foreign nationals to ensure compliance with Indonesian immigration laws.

“Every foreign national must use a visa and stay permit that matches the purpose of their visit. We will continue strengthening immigration enforcement, and any violation will be dealt with in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations,” he said. (mybalinews/KAD)
