Intrepid Travel partners with Scholars of Sustenance to fight food waste in Indonesia

INTREPID DMC Indonesia is proud to announce its partnership with Scholar of Sustenance, SOS Indonesia a leading non-profit organization dedicated to reducing food waste and addressing hunger.

Through this collaboration, supported by The Intrepid Foundation, the two organizations will work together to drive meaningful change in Indonesia.

Founded in 2016, SOS Indonesia operates primarily in high-tourism areas of Bali, rescuing surplus food from hotels, supermarkets, bakeries, farms, and manufacturers.

Using motorcycles and refrigerated trucks, SOS efficiently redistributes this food to those in need, ensuring that edible surplus is not wasted.

In early 2023, the organization expanded its reach to Jakarta, aiming to partner with more businesses in the capital to further combat food waste and hunger on a larger scale.

Through this partnership, Intrepid DMC Indonesia will engage its travelers and global network to raise awareness about food waste and hunger while supporting fundraising initiatives to help SOS Indonesia expand its operations and reach more vulnerable communities.

Ravindra Singh, General Manager, Intrepid DMC Indonesia says: “As a travel company, we see firsthand the impact tourism can have on local communities. Partnering with Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia means we can help make that impact a positive one, turning leftover food into meals for those who need them. It’s a simple idea, but one that can make a real difference.”

Biheng Zhang, General Manager, The Intrepid Foundation says: “No one should be going hungry while perfectly good food goes to waste. Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia is tackling this head-on, and we’re so proud to support them. This isn’t just about food redistribution, it’s about changing the way we think about waste and making sure more people get the meals they need.”

Bo H Holmgreen, Founder and CE of SOS says: “We have distributed over 65 million meals, rescued 15 million tons of food, and prevented 40 million tons of CO2 emissions. Together, we can transform waste into hope and create a world where surplus food is not wasted, generosity meets efficiency, and hunger is no longer a daily struggle.”

As part of the Intrepid Travel Group, Intrepid DMC Indonesia is committed to responsible, immersive, and sustainable tourism.

The company actively integrates sustainability into its operations and workplace culture, empowering employees to align their professional efforts with positive social and environmental impact.

By partnering with SOS Indonesia, Intrepid DMC Indonesia reaffirms its dedication to ethical tourism and its mission to uplift communities while creating a more sustainable future.
