DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – The Bali Police have decided to release the Russian man that was initially arrested for robbery case.

Police declared that police can’t find any evidence linking him to the international crime. “There was no evidence that linking him to the international crime,” Bali Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ariasandy said on Saturday (1/2).

The Russian man, identified as KA, was detained as one of nine Russian nationals who were reported by the victim, a Ukrainian national, in connection with a crime.

“However, after a 24-hour investigation by general crime directorate, it was determined that there was no evidence linking KA to the crime. Based on passport records and photos, it was confirmed that he was in Dubai at the time of the incident,” Ariasandy said.

As a result, KA was released on Friday, January 31, around 22:00 local time, to continue his journey back to Dubai.

“The Bali Police will continue to make every effort to uncover this international crime case, in coordination with the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Hubinter), immigration authorities, and the Russian embassy,” Ariasandy said.

“The authorities hope that this case, which has tarnished Indonesia’s image, especially Bali, will be resolved soon,” he added.

Earlier reported that the Bali Police are investigating a robbery allegedly carried out by several foreign nationals against a Ukrainian national. The footage of robbery incident from car dashcam has also gone viral on social media.

The perpetrators are believed to be nine people, mostly Russian. They have robbed cryptocurrency assets worth IDR 3.4 billion from the victim’s account.

“Investigation are underway,” the Bali Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ariasandy said on Thursday (30/1).

The incident was reportedly occurred on December 15, 2024. At that time, the victim (II), along with his driver (initials A), was driving a white car. Suddenly, while traveling along the street in Ungasan Village, South Kuta, Badung, Bali, they were blocked by two cars. An Alphard was blocking the road from the front and another one from behind.

Later on, four people dressed in black, wearing masks and armed with knives, hammers, and pistols, came out from the car. They forced the victim and his driver into one of the cars, handcuffed them, and covered their heads with black hoods.

The perpetrators then took the victim and the driver to a villa. Upon arriving at the villa, the perpetrators was forced to took the mobile phone. They then beat the victim to coerce him into transferring cryptocurrency assets to two accounts believed to belong to the perpetrators.

“The attackers continued to beat and forced the victim to provide his Binance account so they could steal the victim’s cryptocurrency assets worth 214,429.13808500 USD,” he added.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered injuries to his right ear, both wrists, left hand, left eye, back of the head, and right side of the waist. The material loss was estimated at approximately IDR 3,496,790,194.

The victim reported the incident to the Bali Police for further investigation. The victim was coerced into handing over his cryptocurrency assets, and it is still unclear whether the perpetrators and the victim are known each other. (mybalinews/KAD/ERV)
