DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – Founder of the Islam-based Crescent and Star Party (PBB) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said on Monday that he hoped that the 6th PBB Congress will run smoothly and elect a new PBB leader for the next five years.
The coordinating minister of Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Services said that he was part of the older generation in the party.
“I hope that the election will be held democratically, honestly and fairly. We will elect a successor leader for the Crescent Star Party in the next five years,” he said at the 6th PBB Congress in Denpasar, Bali, Monday (13/1).
“For me, I am part of the older generation in the party and it is time to step back and give the opportunity to a new leader to continue the leadership of this Crescent Star Party,” he added.

Regarding the criteria for the new PBB chairman, he left it entirely up to the participants at the PBB Congress and the steering committee who will later formulate the requirements to advance as a candidate for general chairman and that will be discussed and agreed upon and ratified before the election is held.
“And I hope this is a democratic and open election and provides an opportunity for anyone who meets the requirements to run for the general chairman election later,” he said.
Presidential Threshold
He also hoped that the party would get a greater future, following many things happen lately.
He was citing an example the political developments that have occurred in the last few days and the emergence of the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the presidential threshold which has been officially removed and the parliamentary threshold polemic which has been previously ratified by the Constitutional Court.
“So, in the future it will provide a greater opportunity for the Crescent Star Party to appear in the midst of society and it is hoped that it will regain votes and then be able to place its representatives in the House of Representatives, the people are my hope,” he said.
Yusril also assessed that the presidential threshold and parliamentary threshold have been considered to close the opportunity for the development of healthy democracy in Indonesia.
“The people’s voice should not be wasted,” he said.
Yusril citing an example from the 2019 election. “If the political parties that did not meet the parliamentary threshold were combined, the number was very large. And because of that, in fact, the people’s voice should not be wasted,” he said.
According to him, it is better to limit the number of parties in the House of Representative. Once there is a party that lacks votes,he added, they can join another party.
“But in my personal opinion, I think the number of parties in the House of Representative should be limited,” he emphasized. ( mybalinews/KAD/ERV)
