DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – EIGER Tropical Adventure has committed to continue its mangrove conservation program on coasts across Indonesia.
On Thursday (12/19), PT Eigerindo MPI as the sole distributor for the EIGER brand have planted 3,000 mangrove seedlings. The mangrove planting located in Tuban area, in the coast that flows into the Benoa Bay.
The mangrove planting action was carried out by inviting dozens of store leaders and retail assistants representing various EIGER stores on the island of Bali.
The thick-muddy terrain due to river sedimentation at Benoa Bay become a challenge during the mangrove planting.
Ebenhard Ekaputra, Corporate Social Resposibility (CSR) Officer of PT Eigerindo MPI explained that the condition of the mangroves in Tuban Village is quite challenging.
This is because the mangroves are in muddy areas due to sedimentation. There are also many trash in the area, including plastic trash that was sent by the waves.
“Without maintenance, mangrove seedlings will not last long and will not grow,” he explained.
“EIGER’s commitment is to directly plant 3,000 mangroves in the Benoa Bay estuary. At the same time, we are committed to maintaining and ensuring that the growth and survival rate of the planted mangroves is at least 50 percent,” he explained.
“Every few periods, we will carry out periodic maintenance and replant seedlings that has died or swept away by wind and waves,” said Ebenhard.
In order to reach the mangrove planting location agreed upon by EIGER and the Wanasari Fishermen’s Group, it took a struggle to traverse thick mud sedimentation and garbage at the river.
While carrying mangrove seedlings one by one, 15 representatives of EIGER store leaders and retail assistants in Bali, managed to plant all the seedlings they brought. This EIGER team came from EIGER stores in Teuku Umar, Sunset Road Seminyak, Gatot Subroto Bali, Canggu, Uluwatu, Sanur, and EIGER stores in Tabanan. (kanalbali/RLS/ERV)
