“Recycle Me”, an initiative to increase post-consumer packaging collection through the provision of PET bottle drop boxes at 20 M Mart outlets in Bali have been officially launched.
BADUNG, kanalbali.id – Coca-Cola System in Indonesia, comprising Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia (CCEP Indonesia) and Coca-Cola Indonesia, together with PT Global Retailindo Pratama, the retail company operating the M Mart and Big M networks have started an initiative for the environment in Bali on Friday, 8 August 2026.
“Recycle Me”, an initiative to increase post-consumer packaging collection through the provision of PET bottle drop boxes at 20 M Mart outlets in Bali have been officially launched.
This initiative is part of a shared commitment to support a more sustainable packaging management system and strengthen post-consumer packaging collection and recycling efforts in Bali.
The launch of the “Recycle Me” program comes amid the growing need for effective waste management solutions in Bali. Based on data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), Bali generates approximately 1.25 million tons of waste each year, equivalent to 3,436 tons per day.
Of this amount, plastic waste accounts for more than 17 percent. This situation underscores the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to improve the collection and management of post-consumer packaging so that it can be recycled and reused.
“Bali is currently facing significant waste management challenges, requiring the involvement of all parties to deliver sustainable solutions. We appreciate the collaboration between Coca-Cola and M Mart through the ‘Recycle Me’ initiative, which provides easier access for the public to return post-consumer packaging for recycling.
Initiatives like this demonstrate how businesses can contribute to waste management and the circular economy in Bali,” said I Made Dwi Arbani, Head of the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Agency.
Through the “Recycle Me” initiative, the public can return post-consumer PET bottles to drop box facilities available at M Mart outlets. The collected packaging will then enter the recycling value chain so that it can be reused as raw material for new packaging.
This initiative reflects collaboration involving the entire packaging value chain, from brand owners, manufacturers, retailers, and recyclers to consumers.
“As part of our commitment to helping accelerate the circular economy for packaging in Indonesia, we continue to strengthen collection systems and partnerships throughout the recycling value chain,” Dhedy Adi Nugroho, Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability CCEP Indonesia.
“Through ‘Recycle Me’, we want to make returning packaging easier and more convenient for consumers, while ensuring that collected bottles can have a second life through the recycling process For this reason, we greatly appreciate M Mart’s support as a retail partner in expanding public access to packaging collection facilities and recycling education, as well as the collaboration of local governments and TPS 3R partners in managing post-consumer packaging,” Adi Nugroho added.
Since 2023, Coca-Cola in Indonesia has used recycled PET (rPET) in its packaging portfolio as part of efforts to increase the use of recycled materials and reduce packaging waste.
Retailers play an important role in this program. With a network of outlets integrated into consumers’ daily activities, M Mart serves as a link between consumers and the post-consumer packaging collection system. The presence of drop boxes at easily accessible locations is expected to encourage behaviour changes among the public to become more active in returning used packaging.
“As a retailer that interacts directly with consumers every day and is close to customers through our extensive network of outlets, we have an opportunity to provide solutions that are easily accessible to the public. Through the ‘Recycle Me’ initiative, we hope to encourage broader participation in returning post-consumer packaging while inviting consumers to become part of the environmental solution in Bali,” said Ramesh Ram Khaerudin, Managing Director M Mart
This initiative is also supported by partners throughout the recycling value chain to help ensure that collected packaging can be processed and recycled back into raw materials for new packaging. Mahija Parahita Nusantara plays an important role in responsibly collecting and managing post-consumer PET bottles from the market. The material is processed by Amandina Bumi Nusantara, a recycling facility established through a joint venture between CCEP Indonesia and Dynapack Asia, which produces food-grade recycled PET (rPET).
“Building a circular economy requires a comprehensive approach, from packaging design and production, post-consumer collection, to recycling and reuse. Through partnerships across the value chain, we want to help create a system in which packaging is not viewed as waste, but as a valuable resource that can continue to be utilized. We hope initiatives like ‘Recycle Me’ can increase understanding and encourage greater public participation, as well as inspire more collaborative action to support a cleaner Bali,” added Dhedy.
