AQUA: Real Steps to Address Waste Challenges Through a Circular Economy
BALI, mybalinews.com – In the spirit of sustainability and a healthy lifestyle, AQUA, as the official water sponsor of the Maybank Marathon 2025, is inviting 10 Maybank Marathon runners to participate in the Circularity Tour program in Bali for the first time.
This program is part of AQUA’s commitment to demonstrating that an inclusive, circular economy through cross-stakeholder collaboration is not just a concept, but a reality and achievable.
Furthermore, this program embodies the company’s commitment and encourages runners to better understand a healthy self, which is further supported by a healthy environment, in line with responsible waste management.
To support the government in finding joint waste management solutions, AQUA supports this effort with a comprehensive and integrated initiative from upstream to downstream, utilizing a circular economy approach.
This approach is a relevant and impactful strategic approach. The Circularity Tour, held on August 22, 2025, provided Maybank Marathon runners with an opportunity to witness firsthand how post-consumer plastic bottles can be recycled and transformed into new value for the environment.
The event began with a cleanup from Segara Ayu Beach to Bangsal Beach in Sanur. The event continued with visits to two key locations in AQUA’s recycling chain: Bali PET, a post-consumer plastic bottle collection, sorting, and processing facility, and AQUA’s production facility in Mambal.
The event also included an educational session on the importance of responsible plastic waste management.
Vera Galuh Sugijanto, VP General Secretary of Danone Indonesia, explained that “A circular economy is a crucial foundation for creating a healthier and more sustainable future”.
AQUA believe that post-consumer packaging is not the end of a product, but rather the beginning of a new cycle that can be continuously utilized, as they embody through the #BijakBerplastik Movement, which not only contributes to reducing plastic waste but also creates economic value and empowers communities.
Through the Circularity Tour initiative, AQUA want to demonstrate that integrated and collaborative waste management is not only an environmental solution but also part of a healthy lifestyle that supports a better quality of life for the community.
By involving more than 25,000 conservationists, local partners, and consumers in one ecosystem, we prove that real change is possible.
“Let’s be part of this movement by choosing brands that are responsible and care about health and environmental sustainability,” said Vera.
Nationally, the #BijakBerplastik program, which focuses on developing waste collection infrastructure, consumer and community education, and product packaging innovation, is part of AQUA’s commitment to supporting the Clean Indonesia Movement.
This commitment is implemented through a collection ecosystem spread across Indonesia, encompassing 100 fostered waste banks, 11 collection centers, 3 TPSTs (traditional waste disposal sites), 32 TPS3R (recycling waste recycling sites), and 10 recycling business unit partners, which collectively collect more than 31,500 tons of plastic waste annually.
Since 1983, AQUA has also introduced reusable gallon jugs that reduce carbon emissions by up to 83% and plastic use by up to 78%.
Innovation continues with the launch of AQUA Life, a product with packaging made from 100% recycled materials and 100% recyclable. AQUA also continues to innovate to provide packaging solutions that minimize plastic use. Currently, over 96% of AQUA packaging is recyclable, and all AQUA products contain up to 25% recycled material.
Education about the circular economy is relevant for the active, health-conscious, and environmentally conscious running community.
Through the Circularity Tour, they not only understood the importance of safe hydration but also witnessed firsthand how post-consumer plastic bottles are collected and responsibly processed into raw materials for new product packaging or other items with economic value.
Riski Febri, Lifestyle Content Creator and Circularity Tour participant, said, “As a runner, I deeply care about my health and the environment”.
“Participating in the Circularity Tour with AQUA opened my eyes to the idea that the circular economy is not just a theory, but a reality and achievable.” said Riski.
He saw firsthand how post-consumer plastic bottles can be systematically collected and properly processed. A visit to the AQUA factory in Mambal, Bali, also opened my eyes to the possibility that an industry can operate sustainably. ( mybalinews/RLS )
