BADUNG, mybalinews.com – Ishibashi, JANUS, su-re.co together with the Pererenan Village Government inaugurated SDN 1 Pererenan and SDN 2 Pererenan as model schools for compost management in Bali.
This program aims to promote environmental education from an early age, teach organic waste processing, and strengthen the role of schools as drivers of community behavior change.
The inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, was attended by the Head of Pererenan Village (Perbekel), I Made Sumartana, as the village leader.
Also present were the Principal of SDN 1 Pererenan, I Nyoman Persa, along with teacher representatives from SDN 2 Pererenan who will become the main actors in ensuring the continuity of this program at the school level.
From the government sector, the Head of the Division for Sanitation and Hazardous Waste (B3) of the Badung Environmental Agency (DLH), Anak Agung Gede Agung Dalem, attended to provide policy-level support.
From academia, Professor Wayan Arthana of Udayana University participated. Representatives from Toyama City, Kobayashii Keiichi, also attended as part of international collaboration.
The presence of Nishida Horoko from The Kanemori Foundation, as well as representatives from JICA Hokuriku and JICA Indonesia, further underscored cross-country support for this program.
In addition, Founder & CEO of su-re.co, Takeshi Takama, together with the program initiator, Ryuji Ishibashi, also actively took part in the event.
The full support of teachers, students, and community representatives enriched the significance of this inauguration for Pererenan Village.
The program introduces methods of processing organic waste into compost that can be reused for school agriculture or green gardens.
As part of the activities, Ishibashi handed over 100 compost buckets to both schools and conducted a live demonstration of compost making.
“We want children to learn that organic waste is not garbage, but a resource. By setting a concrete example at school, they will bring this good habit into their homes and communities,” said Takeshi Takama, Founder & CEO of su-re.co.
Meanwhile, Ryuji Ishibashi added during the demonstration, “Children can see for themselves how food waste, which usually smells unpleasant, no longer smells. This is thanks to Biofighter spraying, which eliminates odors and prevents flies. That way, children can directly handle compost that no longer gives off the smell of waste.”
A 5th-grade student of SDN 1 Pererenan also shared their experience:
“I was really happy to try it. When I touched the compost, it was already warm. Usually, food waste smells really bad, but now it doesn’t smell anymore. I’m excited to bring food waste from home.”
Perbekel Pererenan, I Made Sumartana, emphasized the village government’s support:
“I highly appreciate today’s activity. I truly appreciate it because Pererenan Village, especially SDN 1 and SDN 2, was given the opportunity to implement a project that is in line with the government’s priority from the central level down to the village level, which is waste management.”
This initiative is part of su-re.co’s commitment to combining education, technology, and sustainability.
By involving students directly, the program not only teaches technical skills but also builds awareness and a sense of responsibility toward the environment both at school and at home. (mybalinews/RLS)
