
JAKARTA, mybalinews.com – Indonesia and France have officially signed a practical arrangement for the transfer of French national Serge Areski Atlaoui, a convicted prisoner currently serving time in Indonesia.
The signing ceremony was held virtually, with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, signing the document at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jakarta.
The French side was represented by Gérald Darmanin, Minister of State, Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, at the French Ministry of Justice.

This agreement reflects both nations’ commitment to respecting each other’s sovereignty and jurisdiction in line with international instruments to which both are parties, said in a statement.
The Indonesian government emphasized that the arrangement does not infringe upon the country’s sovereignty in any way.
The transfer of Serge Atlaoui is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2025, and will be carried out according to the relevant policies of both countries.
Following the transfer, Atlaoui’s sentence will be fully governed by French law and procedures, including matters related to pardons, remissions, or amnesty.
France has also committed to providing the Indonesian government with information regarding the ongoing execution of Atlaoui’s sentence after the transfer. This agreement is seen as a step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of law and justice enforcement.
This arrangement marks a significant milestone in diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, underscoring mutual respect and a constructive partnership between the two nations. ( MYBALINEWS/ERV)
