BADUNG, mybalinewss.com – Today, Jiwa Community Garden is hosting Preserve Canggu’s Green Oasis: Jiwa Garden’s Membership Launch Day, a landmark event bringing together community members, environmental organizations, sustainable businesses, and real estate developers to reimagine Bali’s urban future.
The celebration marks the launch of Jiwa’s membership program, which invites individuals, families, and businesses to actively support environmental restoration and community resilience in Bali.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Jiwa’s founders, followed by guided tours of the garden’s composting facility, permaculture systems, and educational spaces. The first panel, Green Spaces & Community Development, explored the role of Balinese wisdom, permaculture, and urban planning in creating resilient communities.
“This is not just for the Earth, but also for all of us,” said Kristina Komala of Teman Sayur, highlighting humanity’s dependence on green spaces.
Tito Triputra of Kebun Raya Eka Karya Bali added, “Green spaces are not optional, they are a regulatory requirement,” referencing national building regulations.
Jelle Therry of Urban Nature urged a new perspective: “Stop seeing green as garnish — see nature as capital!”
The second panel, Real Estate & Sustainable Development, brought together Heruanda Barabah (Eco Mantra), Tobi Klanner (Altarize), Djuca Terenzi (Jiwa Garden), and sustainable engineer Rob Dubois.
Their dialogue focused on how Bali’s property boom can align with ecological preservation through sustainable design and responsible investment.

Beyond the discussions, the festival offers a variety of interactive and family-friendly activities. Attendees are participating in gardening sessions, a Black Soldier Fly workshop with Umah Pupa, and Kelas Kokedama — a planting workshop using the Japanese moss-ball technique, led by Kebun Raya Eka Karya Bali.
The program also features traditional Independence Day games, as well as innovative sustainability-themed games designed by EcoGames.net.
In the evening, film screenings by The Rahayu Project and Kebun Berdaya will showcase local stories of environmental stewardship and grassroots innovation.
Jiwa’s new membership program is being introduced throughout the day, providing members with access to workshops, community networks, and opportunities to help shape the future of Jiwa Garden.
“This is more than a launch — it’s a call to action,” said Jiwa co-founder Lenny.
“With development encroaching from all directions, Jiwa stands as Canggu’s publicly accessible green stronghold. Today proves that together, we can protect and expand spaces that nurture both people and nature, through community-driven financial sustainability.”
Since its founding in 2020, Jiwa has composted over 1.5 million kilograms of organic waste, produced more than 8,000 kilograms of organic food, sequestered 700 metric tons of CO₂, and welcomed over 30,000 visitors from 70 countries in hands-on environmental learning. (mybalinews/RLS)
