DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – An American national was adrift at Bali waters overnight on Tuesday (10/6). The US National, Petter Picetti Falcone, has been found alive after he was reportedly missing one night.
The incident was began when Falcone and nine other tourists set sail from Serangan to Lembongan aboard the Haruku Ship at 3 p.m. Bali time on Tuesday.
Shortly after arriving at Lembongan, he was jet skiing under supervision. After two attempts, Picetti Falcone rode the jet ski alone heading west, around the Sanur waters. He did not return by evening. The Haruka ship crew had attempted a search but found no trace.
“The incident at Lembongan was reported to have happened around 4 p.m.,” I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, said in a statement.
The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office received the information of the incident at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Search efforts were conducted Tuesday night using an RIB (rigid inflatable boat) with four personnel involved. However, the night search yielded no results.
On Wednesday morning, the RIB departed from the Benoa Port Navigation Dock heading toward Lembongan waters. At 7.30 a.m, information was received from the captain of the Duta Lestari 08 fishing boat that the victim had been found safe around the Uluwatu waters.
It was reported that the fishing boat happened to pass by and saw the man waving for help because his jet ski had run out of fuel.
The discovery was promptly responded to by the joint SAR team, which was stationed at Tanjung Benoa at the time.
“We received a report from one of the agents on the Duta Lestari 08 that the boat passed through Uluwatu waters, where the victim immediately asked for help and was towed by the fishing boat back to port,” said Sidakarya.
Following communication with the Duta Lestari 08 crew, it was agreed to transfer the victim near Pandawa Beach waters.
This process was briefly delayed due to high waves but by 8 a.m., the victim was safely aboard the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office RIB and then taken to the Benoa Port Navigation Dock.
Meanwhile, the RIB’s movement was escorted by two KPLP RIB units, one Bali Police Air Unit RIB, and one Benoa Police Air Unit speedboat.
The family requested that Petter Picetti Falcone be taken to BIMC Hospital using the Denpasar BBKK ambulance to get medical treatment.
During the SAR operation, other SAR elements were involved, including Mabes Polairud KP Manyar, Sabhara Polda Bali, Polairud Polda Bali, Benoa Sector Police, Benoa Naval Post, SROP Benoa, VTS Benoa, Denpasar Quarantine Center, KPLP Benoa, the Duta Lestari 08 fishing boat crew, and the victim’s family.
