Passengers traveling on the special day had the chance to witness a lion dance parade crossing both the domestic and international terminals. The general manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said that the regular thematic event was held to create a memorable experience for passengers.
“This year’s Chinese New Year celebration marks the 2576 Kongzili year of the wood snake, so the terminal decorations were adjusted accordingly. We also brought in a Chinatown atmosphere through instrumental audio played on repeat, allowing passengers to feel the Chinese New Year spirit at the airport,” he said.

The presence of the lion dance parade in the terminal also attracted the attention of airport users. The graceful movements of the lion dance performers, accompanied by the sound of tambourines, gongs, and cymbals, added to the festive atmosphere in the terminal. Passengers also took the opportunity to capture the moment with selfies.
“It’s so delightful because the airport has created a Chinese New Year atmosphere, allowing us to celebrate even while we’re traveling. The ambiance, the decorations, and the friendly staff made it such an enjoyable experience for us,” Bao – Yu , a passenger from China.
The Chinese New Year holiday coinciding with the Isra’ Mi’raj holiday at the end of January has contributed to an increase in passenger traffic at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. During the long holiday period, it is estimated that about 864,000 passengers will be served from January 24 to February 5, 2025. This forecast represents a 9 percent increase compared to last year’s Chinese New Year period, which saw 789,000 passengers.
The airport management expects an average of 66,000 daily passengers, which is a 5 percent increase compared to the daily average of 63,000 passengers in January. The increase in passenger numbers has already been noticeable since Friday (January 24), which also marked the peak of passenger movement with a total of 74,791 passengers.
The increase in passenger movement is reflected in the number of both domestic and international arrivals, with the highest number of domestic passengers recorded on Saturday (January 25) at 18,145 passengers, and the highest number of international arrivals on Friday (January 24) at 22,663 passengers. I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport predicts the peak of the Chinese New Year holiday return flow will occur on January 30, 2025, with 74,000 passengers.
To handle the increased passenger movement, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has fully mobilized personnel and facilities to provide optimal services to passengers. The use of information technology, which was successfully implemented during the previous year-end and New Year transport period, is also being applied to predict the number of passengers during peak hours, allowing long queues to be anticipated.
