Water taxi planned to solve Bali congestion

BADUNG, mybalinews.com – Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) have announced his newest plan to solve congestion problem on the resort island of Bali.

The minister is planning to introduce public transportation such as water taxis as one of the transportation options in Bali.

The sea taxis would connect I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to several tourist areas on Bali Island, such as Canggu, North Kuta District, Badung Regency, and other tourist destinations on the island.

“Water taxis are also very important, and several countries already have the concept of water taxis that can connect Ngurah Rai to several tourist destinations, including Canggu to the north and others,” Agus Harimurti said during his visit at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, on Thursday (23/1).

Agus said that the minister are thinking about how to optimize the use of other transportation modes.

“Land transport is of course necessary. But we also need to focus more on public transport, not just private vehicles,” said he said.

The idea came after the government became aware that passengers arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport often face traffic jams after leaving the airport.

“There are some main issues, not just airport capacity. But after passengers leave the airport, they are often faced with traffic jams. It is very congested, and we need to find a solution,” Agus said.

The number of international at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport have increased by 22 percent in 2024. After Soekarno-Hatta Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai is the busiest airport in Indonesia. The airport serves approximately 23 to 25 million passengers every year.
