Immigration arrested Germany for hiking Mt. Agung without guide

KARANGASEM, mybalinews.com – Singaraja Immigration Officer have arrested a Germany, identified as KES, after attempting to hike Mount Agung without guide.

The German man have been arrested at Mount Agung hiking starting point in Karangasem Bali after he was nabbed by locals.

Head of Singaraja Immigration Office, Hendra Setiawan, said that KEW was detained on Friday (17/1). He was detained by immigration officers at the Mount Agung hiking base post in Pura Pasar Agung, Karangasem, Bali.

“We received a report about a foreign national hiking without a guide. We immediately deployed a team to the Mount Agung Hiking Base Post via the Pasar Agung trail,” said Hendra on Wednesday (22/1).

Initially, Singaraja Immigration’s intelligence officers received a report from the Mount Agung tour guide operators about a foreign national suspected of planning to hike without a guide.

At that time, the foreign tourist arrived alone at the Pura Pasar Agung parking lot. He was riding a motorcycle. When questioned by the guard, the foreign national claimed he was heading to Pura Pasar Agung.

However, due to suspicious behave, the guard approached him and informed him that hiking would require a guide for safety reasons. This regulation refers to the Circular Letter (SE) from the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Agency. The rule is also posted on a banner at the VIP parking area of Pura Pasar Agung.

This is a preventive measure to avoid any unwanted incidents from hiking without a guide. The foreign national, KES, is currently placed in the Immigration Detention Room at the Singaraja Immigration Office for further investigation.

“We have detained the foreign national at the office for an official report and further examination. This is because the individual is suspected of violating the circular letter issued by the Head of the Forestry and Environment Service of Bali Province,” said Hendra.

Earlier on Friday (3/1), a South Korean man was found dead o Mount Agung after missing during his solo hiking on the Bali’s highest mountain. The South Korean man hiked the mountain without any guide.

Following the incident, the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Service have issued a new regulation that banned anyone to hiking without guide for safety reason. ( mybalinews/ERV)
