DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – The Bali Police’s internal affairs division have detained two police officers for charging illegal levy to a foreign tourist in Kuta.

The two officer have charged illegal levy to a Columbian national living in Australia after her mobile phone was snatched on the street.

Bali Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ariasandy said in a statement on Tuesday that Bali Police’s internal affairs division have immediately investigate the incident after an amateur video about the Columbian woman experience shared by a local driver on social media went viral.

“A sufficient evidence has been found that the two police personnel have allegedly violated the Police Professional Code of Ethic,” Ariasandy said.

Ariasandy emphasized that Bali Police’s internal affairs division have interrogated the two Kuta Police personnel who received Rp. 200,000 from the foreigner on Tuesday (21/1). During the interrogation, the two police personnel, Adj. First Insp. GKS and Adj. First Insp. S have admitted their act.

The incident was happened on Sunday, January 5, 2025, a foreigner identified with initial SGH from Colombia came to the Kuta Police Station to make a police report that she has been snatched. SGH lost her Iphone 14 Pro Max purple in the incident.

After being asked by the police personnel, it foud that the snatch scene was in Uluwatu street, Jimbaran area, which is the area of the South Kuta Police area.

The two police personnel has advised SGH to make a report at the South Kuta Police Station. However, she asked for help as she should leave Bali immediately. SGH told police that she need the police report for insurance.

The two police officer later told SGH they can help to make a report as long as the foreigner is willing to provide Rp 200 thousand for administrative costs, and the foreigner agrees to provide the money.

Then a Letter of Receipt of the Report of Loss Number: STPL/80/I/2025/BALI/RESTA DPS/SEK KUTA dated January 5, 2025 issued, stated in the letter that SGH had lost an iPhone 14 promax on Jalan Legian Kuta Badung Bali.

When he was about to submit the report letter, the police then invited SGH to a room to receive a reward of Rp 200,000 according to the agreement.

“Currently, the two members of the Kuta Police personnel are still in the process of being examined and will then be placed (detained) in the Bali Police’s internal affairs division,” Ariasandy said.

“A sufficient evidence has been found that the two police personnel have allegedly violated the Police Professional Code of Ethics as referred to in Article 5 paragraph (3) of police regulation number 7 of 2022 which states that every police officer in institutional ethics is obliged to carry out duties, authorities and responsibilities proportionally in accordance with the scope of their authority.

The two police personnel is also violate article 12 subsection h of police regulation number 7 of 2022 which states that every police officer in community ethics is prohibited from charging fees in providing services outside the provisions of statutory regulations in the form of actions.
