DENPASAR, mybalinews.com – Bali Governor I Wayan Koster announced on Tuesday that the government will create a special regulation to protect Bali’s coastal beaches from exploitation by greedy investors.

The regulation will prevent beachfront hotels and villas from taking over the beaches and will prioritize the use of the bali’s beaches for cultural ceremonies, social activities, and the local economy.

This move was initiated by Governor Koster because he believes that hotels and villas in Bali treat the beaches surrounding their properties as their own, with some residents even being prohibited from using the beaches.

“This is happening because it is becoming increasingly difficult for local people to access the beaches. The hotels and villas around them seem to own the beach. As a result, locals are prohibited from utilizing the beach,” Koster said during his speech at the Plenary Session of the Bali Provincial DPRD in Denpasar on Tuesday (March 4).

“Of course, this is not good for the future of Bali. Therefore, we will create regulations to protect this, so the community will not be disturbed or face problems when carrying out cultural ceremonies, social activities, and economic activities,” he added.

Governor Koster also addressed the issue of the boundary fence made of floaters in Serangan Waters in South Denpasar, Bali, which has now been removed.

“Yesterday, the boundary fence in Serangan was taken down so that fishermen can resume their activities. Tourism businesses there did not buy the beach; they only own the land. So, they should not be controlling the beach for purposes beyond their authority,” he said.

Additionally, Governor Koster is implementing 15 new policies that may become regional regulations (Perda) and Governor Regulations (Pergub), one of which focuses on the protection of beaches and coastal areas for cultural ceremonies, social activities, and the local economy. (mybalinews/KAD/ERV)
