Six years old boy dies after swept away in Badung river

DENPASAR, mybalinews.com — A 6-year-old boy was reportedly dies after he was swept away in the Badung River, near Beji Park in Denpasar, on Friday(24/1).

The incident was happen at around 11 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA). The Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) received the report of the incident at 6.25 p.m.

The victim was identified as Gede Satria, a resident of Jl. Pemeregan Gg. F, in the West Denpasar. He was swept away after allegedly slipping while trying to throw a catfish into the river.

“We initially received a report of a child being swept away, but there were no eyewitnesses to the incident,” said I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency.

He added that the family had carried out their own search efforts before reporting the incident to Basarnas.

Upon receiving the report, the joint SAR team initiated a search, covering a distance of 3 km along the river from the estimated point where the child fell, toward the Buagan Dam in Denpasar. However, by nightfall, the child had not yet been found.

On the morning of Saturday (25/1), the joint search and rescue team, which included personnel from Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, Bali Brimob, Dit Samapta Bali Police, PMI Denpasar, Balawista Denpasar, and Potensi SAR 115, as well as family members and local residents, resumed the search efforts.

“The search, which involved three SAR units combing the river, finally yielded results. At 7. 10 a. m. WITA, the victim was found at the fishing park river area, about 5 km from the original location of the incident,” Nyoman explained.

Kadek Widya Antara, the search and rescue team coordinator, stated that when the victim was found, he was face down and had become entangled in a riverbank stone. The family confirmed that the body was indeed that of Gede Satria.

“The body was then evacuated to Wangaya General Hospital by ambulance from a RAPI Bali,” he concluded. (mybalinews/TIM)
