Police investigates the death of foreigner under Uluwatu Cliff

BADUNG, mybalinews.com – The Denpasar Police are investigating the death of alleged foreigners in Uluwatu on Thursday. Police yet to find any identity of the woman.

An alleged foreigner’s body was found dead on the waters under the Uluwatu Cliff, South Kuta, Badung, on Thursday.

Denpasar Police spokesperson I Ketut Sukadi said police was informed about the discovery of an alleged foreigner on Thusday at around 10.30 a.m under the cliff. “We yet to find any identity of the victim,” Sukadi said.

A witness Made Kacir Ariana told police that he was standing on the cliff wall when he accidentally saw a suspicious object on the waters. After that, the witness tried to see again by climbing the cliff wall.

After the witness climbed the cliff wall and looked at the object, he saw a human body.

“The witness immediately contacted officers, both Search and Rescue Team (Basarnas) and the police,” he added.

Another witness Ketut Astana said that he was at the edge of the cliff at Uluwatu Temple area when he saw a human body lying face down under the cliff.

The witness later approached a foreigner to see an object using his camera. He found out that is was indeed a human body.
“At 11 a.m Central Indonesia Time (WITA), team from South Kuta Police, Bali Police Mobile Brigade Unit, Denpasar Police Water Unit together with Basarnas team carried out the evacuation process,” he said.

The victim’s body suffers wound in left knee. The victim was wearing black pants, had a tattoo on the back. The victim also suffered injury in ankles, and open wound in left waist.

“The body was evacuated to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital. We get information that the victim entered the Uluwatu Temple area at around 8.30 a.m Central Indonesia Time (WITA),” he said.

“The eyewitness who reported this said that a body was seen lying face down on the rocks,” said the Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya.

He explained that the initial information was received by the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office this morning, Thursday (9/1) at around 10.20 a.m. WITA from Balawista, Badung Regency. Due to the extreme conditions, they asked for help to evacuate the estimated cliff height of around 68 meters above sea level.

Denpasar Search and Rescue Office

As many as 12 personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office immediately moved to the location, equipped with extraction equipment. Before the team installed the system to lower personnel, a field observation was carried out first using a thermal drone. After confirming the position of the body. One person was going down slowly.

The search and rescue team had to immediately reach the victim, because the sea water conditions were starting to rise. It was feared that her body would be swept away by the waves and would complicate the evacuation efforts.

After struggling for approximately one and a half hours down the cliff using a rope, the victim was finally evacuated at 1.25 p.m WITA.

Authorities did not find her identity yet. However, she was allegedly a foreign national.

“The victim was only wearing a black bikini, there were open wounds on her body and a possible broken right leg,” Sidakarya said. (mybalinews/KAD/ERV)
